What is an Author Platform? How You Can Help Me Build One …

OMG …. GOT …. FOCUS …. An author platform is the manner in which an author engages his/her audience. So, in theory authors build email lists, everyone is obsessed with how big their email lists are. Some discuss youtube channel followers or twitter followers. Most claim that email is a more secure method of communication and guarantees that people will see it as opposed to social media. Not all things show up from all people, we know this. So …. I will admit I do need a platform. I also think I need to focus, on a few social media sites as compared to all of them. Right now I would say the largest of my engagement comes from Facebook probably 3:1 opposed to other methods. I’m using snapchat, instagram, tumblr, twitter, linkdin.

I also want to recognize that a lot of people don’t use social media … WHAT? … you ask, yes turns out a lot of well adjusted completely normal people do not sit there scrolling through other peoples lives. I know seems strange to me too but that’s not the point. I don’t want to alienate my Taylor people. So here’s the question, how do I generate a list of emails akin to the thousands. Waiting for the next book is not that engaging … I mean I’m going to try but it a relatively solitary job unless we are going to write the book by committee which feels like it will take longer.

Free Chapters? Or only send along the cutting room floor stuff to the email list? Promise like a once a week update on what page I’m on? Any other ideas? And then of course I’m going to need all 30 of you who subscribed to the blog to join the email list … that’s ok right? Tell your friends!!
