You Know You’re an Author When …
- You write anything with the intention of telling a story
- You finish your first draft, even though you know its horrible
- You see your first book
- Your girlfriend calls the cops because you had a book question for your next thriller and she doesn’t recognize the number ….
Most of you know I used to work at a local university. Imagine my surprise when a number I have not seen on my phone in three plus years calls me late last night.
It was none other than campus police following up on a concerning email they received. What email you may ask? Well I had a question about a stalking victim, who’s stalker was violent and who had shown up on campus, what happens to the victim in the residence halls. This was what I sent to a girlfriend who still works there. My text message went to her email for some reason and she didn’t recognize my number. So of course she forwarded a relatively scary question to campus police.
“I’m an author, I write fiction. It’s pretend, it’s made up,” I stammered, trying to explain myself. The officer thankfully recognized my name and said hi after he realized that it was a misunderstanding but that was my you know your an author when experience. And a gently reminder to start my questions with “book question …”
Anyhoo, Facebook keeps telling me I haven’t shared anything in awhile beacause its day 21 of Nanowrimo. I’ve written just over 38,000 words I may actually have this sequel on the run and Thanksgiving is coming! 10 writing days left people, get that story told.
