What Tools Do You Need – Part 2
to write a book? If you haven’t read Part 1 click here. Also if you are new to this journey of becoming an author I would strongly suggest you check out The Payout Breakdown of an Author and What is an Independent Author.
We are going to focus on three relatively simple websites that I have found useful as I increase my social media footprint.
www.pexels.com www.booklife.com www.diybookcovers.com
I would also like to point out that these are just the websites I have used and found helpful there are so many out there to choose from. If you have had a positive or negative experience feel free to put some of that feedback in the comments so others gain from your knowledge and with all things, be kind when making critiques please.
Pexels.com is a website that allows you free downloads of images for your blog or anything else you may need it for. I use it for the blog because no one wants to read just words, they want too see something. Thank you, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. They have both images you can pay for and free ones. I will say that you can type in a key word and depending on what you are looking for there are amazing free images available for download.
DIYbookcovers.com is a great site that offers all sorts of services, but what it will also do is provide you with a free download of your book cover, see below. It’s a great little service and I use it for promotional purposes, I have yet to explore the services in more detail but I definitely think its worth the look.
Booklife.com I’m going to give some positive and negatives, negatives first because I like to end on a good note. I find the author platform and loading my book to be clunky. I either have to re-load the page, my author platform always says its incomplete and I genuinely cannot figure out why. My book page sometimes just sits and spins as opposed to loading. Now it could be my browser, not all websites like safari but as a general rule I just don’t love the author platform. I will say there is a lot of great resources for indie authors. Booklife is Publishers Weekly and they offer a free review process for Indie Authors, My Only Sunshine was denied review but I’m not holding that against them at all, I can only imagine the hundreds of requests they get a week. They website is very indie author friendly offering resources, services, networking opportunities, contests and awards. I think it’s a great resource if you are just starting out or are a seasoned professional.
