What is an Independent Author?
Being an Independent Author, or Indie Author is a lot like sitting alone in a forest full of trees. There are people all over the world writing and publishing their own books. They are growing in the forest. You though are wandering through the forest, trying to find a place to settle in and stay for the next 100 years, give or take a few. If you don’t pick a good spot, one with all the necessities then you won’t grow. If you pick a great spot then you will flourish, at this point I’m just hoping I picked an ok spot and I don’t end up a dwarf tree.
Seriously though analogies aside, I feel like its my duty to at the very least share what I’ve learned through this process. Writing a book is hard enough, but then you come to trying to get it published. You can wait until you die for a publishing house to probably continue to ignore you … OR … you can just do it yourself. I mean all of it.
There are some things you will need to invest in on your own. I know it sucks because you haven’t made any money on the book. If you want to put out something that is decent you are going to have to invest actual money into it.
Time, so much time. You are literally going to do every job, there is a reason they call them publishing houses. It’s a lot of stuff to do and no one can help you, at least not unless you pay them to. SO if you are going to do this be prepared to give up sleep.
I’m going to go into specifics of the stages and what resources I used in following posts and I’ll link them all together so you can find them more easily. Don’t forget to like, comment, share, tweet, retweet, snap, tumblr, whatever all of it … I need the exposure!
