They Won’t Write “You Worked Hard” On Your Tombstone

That’s not what they write … they write “Loving mother, dearest wife, beloved sister etc”.  They don’t write, always answered emails in a timely matter.
Take your work email off your phone.  If your employer doesn’t provide you with a phone and it isn’t mandated by federal or state law that you have access to your email 24 hours a day. Take it off.  Really what are you accomplishing by having it on there.  So you get to know at 10 pm that a shit storm is going to be part of your morning the next day? You think that’s good for your over all health? It’s not ….
Do you think the fact that you sit in 5 hours worth of meetings every single day means that you should be able to answer emails during them?  Cause I sit in those meetings with you and all that means is that you aren’t paying attention to half the meeting which is why I have to sit in 5 hours of meetings in the first place.
Seriously …. I don’t understand you.  Do you think you are being more productive?  Do you think that anyone cares?
I get emails at all hours of the day and night, from people who literally think that I’m going to see something at 1 am and answer them.  WHAT DO YOU THINK I’M DOING AT 1 AM…. COME ON.
Employers are beginning to think that its standard that we have our work emails on our phones and will answer emails at any point during the day.  THAT’S NOT OK!!!!  Stop helping them think that it is.
I don’t care if you answer the email or don’t; the fact that you looked at it brought your head to a work place when you were supposed to be with your family, or your friends or just enjoying some alone time.
We have to regain our balance with our lives.  We work to live, not live to work.
Your relationships, your family, husbands, brothers, sisters, friends, boyfriends, partners etc those people are the ones who will care when you die.  Those people are the ones who’s email you should be answering if any.  Get off your phone, regain control of your life and live it.
