Stepping Up My Game …

As we come up to the first day of school for most of us New Englanders I am reminded of that dream that I think anyone with any kind of anxiety has. You get on the bus, or get into your classroom and you don’t have your stuff or you don’t have the right stuff or your naked. Either way it boils down to feeling nervous, anxious, unprepared ect. My last author event was this moment but in real life. I was part of the summer showcase at Enchanted Passage in Sutton, MA. It was a wonderful event. There were talks, readings, authors, artists and they were prepared. All their books out, business cards, flyers, signup sheets, pull up banners people, freaking pull up banners.

At the time I felt very small and inadequate. I did meet two wonderful local authors, Arthur Martin, Summer of 1840 and Lisa Shea with too many novels to count. Both gave me some wonderful advice so in the end it was worth it. BUT …

For my events this fall I am stepping up my game. I’m taking suggestions or advice if you’ve got some …

  • Business cards
  • Bookmarks
  • Sign up List
  • Writing Prompt as part of the talk???? If people are there a bit early here’s a writing prompt go ahead and jot down a few ideas we’ll talk about them later??? Still wishy washy on that one. Could also turn it into a fall contest. Here’s a writing prompt, give me your email and I’ll have you submit them ….
  • Any other ideas??

The other thing I’ve got to work on is my talk …. One thing I’ve learned from doing a few of these is there is a very distinct difference between a book discussion of my book when at least a few people have read it and a talk, on my journey, self publishing all the while throwing my book into it. I’ve got to make some notes … who wants to come over for a practice session before 9/15 so I can work out some material on you …. Bueller? Bueller?

Like, tweet, share, comment, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK! If you haven’t bought the book yet, you’re going to want to in a few days!!! Stay tuned!
