Poor Sick Baby
We have suffered through our first cold. Not quite over it yet, but on the road to recovery. A sick baby sucks the big one. The poor things struggle to breath, cough when you lay them down and don’t know why they feel like crap. Translate this into a six month old brain and you get snot snot, whine whine, cryyyyyyyy, cough cough, cryyyyyyy!
Not good, so not good. The worst part is you can call whoever you want and google baby colds till your fingers go numb but there is nothing you can do. Talk about a helpless feeling, the best advice I got was to turn on the humidifer or keep him in the bathroom with the shower running to get some steam into his lungs. Not bad advice at all, but I’m not convinced any of it actually worked So I ended up with a sick baby in my arms, trying to play with his toys in the bathroom which I’m not a germaphobe but let’s be honest … yuck. So then I had to clean all his toys and he still sounded like “The Blob” crawled into his nose and refused to leave.
The best thing I did and I let you all know, is let him sleep in his carseat. I tried the crib wedge and the incline wasn’t enough to keep his nose from getting all stuffy. Plus he moves around so much now in his sleep he ended up sliding down the damn thing and having his head wedged between the wedge and the crib bars. The carseat however was a life saver. Kept him nice and coze and sitting up so he could breath. It only took me until about 1 am to figure that out. Oh the things we will try in the middle of the night when nothing else has worked.
He actually made it for a decent part of the night in his crib again, so that tells me we are on the road to recovery.
I can’t imagine a worse cold, although I know there will be some doozies and I can’t imagine a truly sick baby when I am as helpless as I felt for the last three days.
So if anyone has any sick baby advice let’s get them in those comments because I can’t imagine my carseat trick is the only one we have learned so far.
