I was at the beach the other day and this happened ….
A mother, who happened to coach on of my daughters soccers teams this spring came up to me and asked me to sign her copy of My Only Sunshine.
I’m not going to lie to you it was probably the coolest thing that has happened to me so far. She told me how much she loved it and that she was hoping I was working on another story. I was so shocked and touched and excited and luckily another mother I was with snapped a picture of me doing it, thanks Robin!
It’s a funny thing going through this experience. It’s a story, that’s it, it’s just like the stories you tell your friends. I mean, if you lie to your friends on a regular basis and create scenarios that would be seemingly unbelievable to happen to a single person. Let’s just call that being a bit dramatic. It is though, just a story. You read it and then you move on and you read another one, and another one, some make you laugh, some make you cry, some make you lock the doors. It’s escapism, its our way to fall asleep, it’s a story. The only difference between what I did and what you do is mine is a bit longer.
So for all of you and there have been quite a few that said, I always wanted to write a book. Write the book, you can do it. If you want to sell the book you have to loan yourself out through every form of social media, I still don’t understand what the hell Tumblr is. Loan yourself out to people, loan yourself out to groups. Beg people to come and listen to you talk and then hope that someone shows up. Writing the book though, is just story and we all have lots. Next post this week before vacation will be another one on the writing formula that I used. Seriously though, someone randomly asked me to sign their book! EEK! So amazingly cool!
