Do you know where your children are?
Mine is in his crib behind me grunting and cooing away hoping that I’ll come back to get him. I mean it’s only 5 am, why shouldn’t we get up and get going for the day? I am a member of www.babycenter.com and if you have young children or are a new mom I suggest you join; especially the new mom’s. My 3 am fix on the message board gives me something to read and laugh at because these women are up just like you are. My son takes 20 minutes to eat and those 20 minutes in the dark with nothing to do can seem like an eternity. Most of the posts are pretty entertaining ….
“Holy Crap am I tired”
“Anyone else up its 2 am in Cally”
“Why won’t you sleep child?!”
It’s just nice to know that other people are dealing with the same thing. The problem being there are normal people on the message board at 3 am and then there are the crazies. If you have ever been a part of a message board you know what I’m talking about.
It was the same thing when I got married, www.theknot.com had a message board for brides and I figured I’d get some good ideas from what other people were doing. No, no, no that was a mistake, there were literally shades of pink conversations and people got really upset. Like bridezilla when her groom leaves her at the alter and takes her best friend with him upset. It was insane, so I decided maybe no on the message board for the wedding.
The kid however poses a new set of challenges that its nice to hear what other people are doing. The difference again being the crazies. I’ve read posts that are similar to “My son stopped breathing for 30 seconds then he started screaming and turned blue again, do you think I should call the doctor?” I’m sorry when did you manage to write this post when he was screaming, not breathing or turning blue … and really … Should you call the doctor? I’d be calling 911 but I guess that’s just me. Then you have the posts that ask about introducing food when the kids are younger than the recommended 4 – 6 months. Some people will literally try to jump through the screen and kill you for asking about rice cereal at 3 months 3 weeks. I’ve actually been afraid for people’s lives on this thing and Babycenter will shut a post down if women are freaking out on it too much. They must have learned from a previous incident or something.
I guess moral of the story is everyone is going to have an opinion on everything you do and they are all going to think that their way is the right way. The difference being when you are a new mom that you need to learn to have confidence in yourself and your decisions. You are the mother and whatever you decide will be the best for your family and your child.
So I figure so long as I know my son is in his crib; fed, changed and safe he should go back to sleep so I can too.
