Crying it out Day 5

So after lengthy discussions with my husband and various family members we decided to alter our plan slightly.  We are going to try and keep the baby up for a bit longer at night.  Previously his bedtime was around 7:30, we are shooting for 8:30 or 9 pm. We are also going to try transitioning him off the night feeding more slowly as he is the most stubborn child on the face of the planet (I have no idea where he got that from) and does not necessarily seem to be responding really well to this whole cry it out hardcore thing.  So I’m thinking we will start with three ounces at night if he has to have something. He could easily eat 5 so I know three isn’t a much as he will want but I figure if he has three but still puts himself back to bed we do that for 3 – 5 days, then drop it down to 2 ounces again for 3 -5 days we will eventually get down to nothing and perhaps he will just decide not to make such a big fuss.
So with a newly revised game plan we head into the evening.  The baby stayed up until about 8:45 until he was really tired and started to get fussy so off to bed we went.  He did I will say go to sleep much faster than when I was trying to get him down an our earlier.  He ate well for dinner and he had another 3.5 ounces before bed.  Not as much as I would like to see him eat, but like I said he ate really well for dinner and I did give him a chicken finger at about 8 pm so I wasn’t too concerned.
1:30 am … he’s up
I go in his room and pick him up, he immediately inserts his thumb in his mouth and starts snoring on my shoulder.  Over to the glider we go, and we rock for probably 10 minutes.  He seems pretty content so I try to put him back into his crib …. NOPE.
So up we go again, I couldn’t get him back down so I head into the kitchen to warm the three ounces of breastmilk waiting in the fridge.
I skillfully have the baby’s head in the crook of my left arm, while I balance on my left leg and let his but sit on my right leg that is raised like the captain morgan pose so I can use my right hand to get the bottle, and start the warmer.  We trail around the kitchen for the couple of minutes it takes the bottle to warm up and again I notice that he is basically sound asleep.  Normally during this fun little period he is a little fussy, a little up and restless.
I do have to add that he had a slight fever so we did give him tylenol at about 8 pm but we are almost at 2 pm now so while I think that may have something to do with it it was 6 hours later and I don’t think he was sleeping so soundly because of the tylenol at that point.
So the bottle finally finishes and I head back into the room and I figure maybe I can get him back down, just to try it , if it works I just wasted three ounces of liquid gold.  If it doesn’t then, the bottle is ready to go.
Down he went and down he stayed. I carefully slipped out of his room and half expected him to wake up the second my head hit the pillow.  But he didn’t and slept until 6:30.
So successes …. I got the baby back down without having to feed him and without a 30 minute freak out session
Failure … the baby still woke up
I figure 2 in the plus column is a far cry from where we were two nights ago … I’ll take it.
