5 Months Later ….
It has been five months since the release of My Only Sunshine. What has happened ….
- the book is available in e-book, paperback and audio
- over 400 copies have sold in 10 different countries
- I have participated in 6 author events and 1 books club gathering
- I have sort of kind of gotten a handle on the second book and might be able to release it when I wanted to
- The book was selling consistently 2 – 3 units per day, EXCEPT, no e-book or paperback units have sold in the last 10 days 🙁
What have I learned ….
- I made the absolute correct decision to self publish My Only Sunshine and the second book in the series. This book most likely would not have been picked up by a traditional publisher.
- The next project I have in mind I am going to try and publish traditionally. I have two separate ideas one non-fiction, one fiction so we’ll have to see how that goes.
- Self publishing is HARD! Not the actual publishing part ironically enough but the constant content updates and “look over here’s, look over here’s”. There’s a lot to do and no matter what you are doing it isn’t enough.
- Books do not coast on their own, you either have your foot on the gas or your book isn’t moving anywhere.
I’m admittedly feeling the burnout effect, both with promotion of MOS and writing the second one. There is a lot going on in my personal life as well and that isn’t helping anything along. So long story short, I am sad that no units have moved recently but I know why. It’s because I haven’t been whispering into everyone ear that I meet. Hey I wrote a book, go read it. I will again, tomorrow maybe. I just need to breathe and practice a little self care.
So instead of writing which is what I’m supposed to be doing right now. I’m going to go read a book …. something other than my own.
Keep going girlfriend! You’ve got this!!! But first…take some “me time” for yourself xoxo
